Welcome

Welcome to "AI for Christians"!

The possibilities of Artificial Intelligence are immense, both for good and bad. I hope to show how I have used AI for good.

I will mainly be using ChatGPT which is free to use (with some limits as to how much it can be used each day - paid version available but expensive).

I have used it for research into topics from history, science, technology, language, and the Bible. It also has other uses that I'm just starting to discover, such as a "content guide" for books, similar to the BBFC classification system for film and TV, which I will share soon.

Of course I need to make a few disclaimers about the results generated by AI:

  • Even ChatGPT, without the "Big Tech" influence of Google, Microsoft, and other powerful tech entities, can be reluctant to give responses on certain issues, especially if the mainstream media has limited or smothered the content (such as the Trump assassination attempt).
  • Results may not be accurate or current - the AI can only use the information available, and more obscure information may not always be picked up at first. There is also a tendency for the AI to insert caveats into the results, maybe to avoid accusations of bias, though there are ways to minimise this.
  • In some cases I have had a particular focus in mind when using the AI, and so follow-up queries can be quite specific. But I hope that even that will give ideas for how to use the AI to "drill down" into the results to find the kind of information you need.
Some of the queries I have performed involved multiple follow-up questions, which can make the results quite lengthy. Please bear with me while I test out the best ways of presenting these in a way that is helpful.

I have called the blog "AI for Christians". That doesn't mean that every post will be about the Bible, but rather, I hope to show how AI can be used by Christians for a variety of topics we come across in daily life, as well as moral, Biblical, and doctrinal studies.

I hope you'll find something here that will be a help to you. I hope that AI, should you choose to use it, will not replace your own diligent studies in the Word of God, nor be used as a faultless source of information, but that you will find it to be a useful tool, when properly used, in providing insight and ideas for further study.

PS ...

When dealing with doctrinal issues, readers may disagree strongly with my interpretation and understanding. That's okay. I hope the information included in responses will be a help to those who do hold a similar Biblical interpretation, but for those who disagree, I hope we can disagree agreeably, and that you can use the structure of the queries to help your own use of AI in personal study and research.

For clarity, and so no-one is caught off-guard, my personal doctrinal position is summarised below:

  • God as the eternal "Trinity", one God yet three persons - a glorious mystery.
  • Sin and its consequences as the affliction every human being is conceived into, proven and demonstrated in our natural tendency to act contrary to the will and character of God.
  • Salvation as being fully purchased and provided through the sacrificial and substitutionary death of Christ, God the Son and Son of man, for all sinners without exception so that all may be saved, but only applied and enacted in those who repent and believe the gospel.
  • Salvation once received can never be lost, and true salvation will be seen in a changed life, not entirely free from sin in this life, but having the general character of desiring to live soberly, righteously, and justly.
  • The immediate consciousness of the soul in eternity upon physical death - in glory and rest with Christ for those who are saved, but in torment, darkness, and loneliness for those who are unsaved.
  • The literal, sudden pre-tribulational rapture of the Church, living and dead at that time, as they receive their new, eternal bodies and meet the Lord in the air.
  • The literal 7-year Tribulation during which Satan is allowed to have power over the nations through his counterfeit messiah, the Antichrist. This period will also focus attention back onto the Jewish people (being the last of Daniel's 70-weeks prophecy), and God will pour His wrath upon the earth.
  • The Second Coming of Christ at the end of the Tribulation, in which He comes with His saints, this time to the earth, defeats Antichrist's armies, then takes His rightful place as King of all the earth in Jerusalem, at which time He will establish His 1000-year reign known as the Millennial Kingdom.
  • Satan's final rebellion after the Millennium, when He is finally and completely beaten and cast into the Lake of Fire forever.
  • The destruction of the present creation, heavens and earth, and the creation of the new heaven and the new earth, which will remain for all eternity.
  • (I will also be using the King James Version exclusively for any quotations, believing it to be, by far, the best and most blessed English translation.)
